Social Impact

We believe Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a tool to connect with ourselves and others to bring us together for a positive social impact and transformation. We're committed to investing in long-term partnerships that support community development and education projects.

BJJ is a proud sponsor of DreamRoot Leadership Institute - a 501(c)3 non-profit whose mission is to release the potential of leaders in underserved communities to reverse the cycles of poverty and promote the well being of every member of society.

Through this partnership, we strengthen Jiu Jitsu social projects and educational programs in impoverished communities globally. We work closely with DreamRoot on the development and delivery of their Jiu Jitsu leadership training and outreach. We also donate a percentage of our revenue to help underprivileged leaders running Jiu Jitsu social initiatives.

Check out the highlights below of the impact we have had so far.

BJJ Leader Training

Equipping and empowering local leaders.

Through DreamRoot Leadership Institute we conduct on-going training and networking for local leaders of jiu jitsu social initiatives in underserved communities around the world. We have provided over 350 hours of leadership coaching and training to over 80 local leaders of social initiatives working in 18 communities impacting over 1,200 students collectively.

Brazil Camp Impact

Connection, hope, and a changed mindset

During the Team Passos Brazil Camp we have the opportunity to visit DreamRoot local leaders and train at their social initiatives. Camp participants often share that this is the highlight of the trip. Students and local community members share how our visit make them feel seen and valued. The words we most often hear is that our trips mean so much and brings hope and a new perspective to their communities that are oppressed by poverty, violence and corruption.

Training Center Construction

Equipping and empowering local leaders.

Through DreamRoot, our Team Passos community has helped to build two training centers in Brazil, renovated a third and built a resource center for a school in Haiti. These centers are locations where people can meet, learn and connect with one another are vital for healthy development. In communities challenged with underdevelopment and crime, safe and accessible spaces like these become even more critical.

Brazil Camp Impact

To-date our gi drive has donated over 300 uniforms to Jiu Jitsu social initiatives in under-resourced communities throughout Brazil. We have been able to distribute gis to different groups and individuals every year since 2017.
